Causes and Types of Cardiovascular Diseases

A cardiovascular disease is the term given to those diseases that are caused due to disorders in the heart and blood vessels. Some of the disorders that fall under this category are:

? Coronary heart disease
? Hypertension
? Artery disease
? Rheumatic heart disease
? Congenital heart disease
? Failure of heart

Statistics have proved that more people die due to cardiovascular disease as compared to any other diseases. Most often these diseases are caused when a heart muscle weakens or there is a blockage which limits the supply of blood to the heart. Due to this blockage extra pressure is put on the heart to pump blood. This causes the heart to be overworked and over a prolonged period of time it gets worn out. When this happens a person suffers from a heart attack. If medical treatment is not given to the person in time then he may die.

Some of the causes of cardiovascular diseases are:

? Smoking - smoking is the first on the list of causes. Smokers are at a much higher risk of developing a cardiovascular disease as compared a person that does not smoke. Smoking raises the level of bad cholesterol and lowers the levels of good cholesterol. It further damages the inner lining of the arteries. This causes the arteries to shrink, which decreases the flow of blood.

? Obesity - people who are overweight or worse still, those who suffer from obesity are at a very high risk of having a heart attack. Obesity puts pressure on the heart forcing it to pump harder to supply blood. Obesity raises the levels of triglycerides in the body and arterial clogging cholesterol. Heart diseases are mostly found in people who are overweight.

? High cholesterol - high cholesterol comes just after smoking on the list off causes. Some amounts of cholesterol are needed for the proper functioning of the body. However, when the level rises above the normal level it is very harmful for the body.

? Inactivity - more than half the number of people that suffer from heart attacks are inactive. If you have been diagnosed with a cardiovascular disease then you need to spend at least one hour a day exercising. You need to keep your body fit and healthy.

? Eat a healthy diet - if you have been diagnosed with a cardiovascular heart disease then you need to pay extra attention to your diet. The food you eat can reduce your chances of having a heart attack by a huge margin. Avoiding foods like red meat, eggs, dairy products, and poultry will help you to decrease your intake of fibrinogen.

Constant research is being done to find new ways of curing cardiovascular heart diseases. There are plenty of medicines that a heart patient can take to reduce the chances of getting a heart attack. However, if the problem is very serious then the person may have to undergo a cardiovascular surgery. The different types of cardiovascular surgery include stenting, angioplasty, and bypass surgery.

With heart attacks becoming such a common cause of death, more and more heart centers are opening up. There are plenty of good doctors that you can contact in the time of an emergency. One of the best cardiologists in Singapore is Dr Lim Ing Haan. She is a cardiologist in the clinic of Mount Elizabeth medical Centre.
