Red Sox rudely greet Angels with 6-2 victory

ANAHEIM, Ca. -- Teams on hot streaks usually find different ways to win. On Friday night, in the first game of a 10-game West Coast road trip, the Red Sox got some help from their opponents.????

Josh Hamilton dropped a fly ball in right field in the seventh inning, allowing Shane Victorino to score all the way from first base and David Ortiz added a two-run pinch-hit homer an inning later as the Red Sox cooled off the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, 6-2.????

Mike Napoli, who hadn't homered since June 1, 86 at-bats ago, smoked a ball halfway up the grassy hill in center in the top of the ninth.????

It was the ninth win in the last 10 games for the Red Sox, who moved to 20 games over .500 for the first time this season and opened their lead in the A.L. East to 5 1/2 games.????

Felix Doubront, who turned in his seventh quality start in his last nine outings, pitched into the seventh, allowing two runs on just five hits. It marked the sixth straight game in which the Red Sox starter allowed two runs or fewer.????

The Sox had taken a 2-0 lead in the second inning off Angels starter C.J. Wilson when Jarrod Saltalamaccha's single with two runners on was misplayed by left fielder J.B. Shuck.????

Boston wasted plenty of scoring opportunies over the next four innings, stranding eight after six innings.????

Doubront was touched for a run in the third when Shuck drilled a leadoff triple to right and came around a double play by Albert Pujols. Howie Kendrick's solo homer in the fourth evened the score at 2-2.????

Koji Uehaha turned back the Angels in the ninth, though Napoli's homer took away the save situation.
