Pint-sized boxing robot is a motion-controlled fighting machine

This pint-sized fighting machine may look adorable, but it can mimic your every move and throw every punch you throw, thanks to a full-body motion sensor that's very similar to?Microsoft Kinect. This tiny yet tough machine called?King Kizer was created by Naoki Maru, who has won Japan's?Robo One robotics competition several times over the years.

Maru pieced together the mini mechanical fighter years ago. But after seeing Hugh Jackman's robo boxer movie,?Real Steel, he was inspired to redesign King Kizer's technology so it can be controlled by a motion sensor. In the video above taken earlier this week, you can see the robot replicating whatever Maru's son in the background does.

There's still quite a bit of lag between the movements of the human and the robot. Kizer is cool and mighty impressive even now, but it would be great if it could be improved to duplicate the high-speed movements of a top-notch boxer in the future.
